| John Britton Matthew was born in Berkeley, CA on Sept. 16, 1896. Matthew studied at the AIC, UC Berkeley, with Hans Hofmann, Leon Kroll, and Henry McFee. He taught at Sacramento College (1926-60) and served on the board of directors at the Crocker Art Gallery for 22 years. He died in Sacramento on Oct. 7, 1980.
