John Macdonald is a Canadian painter, born in Prince George, British Columbia. After graduating from Emily Carr in 1987, he lived and worked for a number of years in Vancouver.
Macdonald chooses to paint in a manner that is engaged with historical tradition, in both a conceptual and formal sense. His subject matter includes landscapes, seascapes and people engaged in various activities – swimming, fishing, and sometimes just ‘watching’.
