Biography from Trailside Galleries:
The eldest son of American expressionist Dan McCaw, and brother of painter Danny McCaw, John was raised in an artistic environment. Working closely with his father and surrounded by books, art and creative discussions, John McCaw has developed a unique vision. He absorbs his environment, studies painters, past and present, and places no limits on his imagination, and these attributes enable him to bring to his canvas not only his sensitivities but also his heart. He emphasizes strong design, simple shapes, variety of surfaces and sensitive color with the goal of creating well balanced, visually stimulating art.

Instinct and emotion play a major role in the development of the art of John McCaw. By reacting spontaneously to his paintings, he hopes to translate emotion through a non-objective way, allowing the viewer to interact freely and to participate in the painting.

He says, “My goal as an artist is to take the very basics of art which are color, texture and design and compose them in a way so that it is not only visually stimulating but also thought provoking. When reality or objectivity is taken out of the picture the viewer has to rely on the pure emotion. By challenging the viewer to look within themselves to find why a piece of art moves then in one direction or another, the viewer is able to participate in the painting and hopefully learn something about themselves. Whether you’re the artist or the collector, you can only own a piece of art when you become emotionally attached to it.”

Biography from Morris & Whiteside Galleries:
John McCaw (b.1967) son of the noted American painter, Dan McCaw, was drawn at an early age to the abstract qualities in his father’s work and responded quickly to his encouragement to emphasize strong design, simple shapes, a variety of textured surfaces and sensitive color.  Following studies at Long Beach State University, John apprenticed in Dan’s studio and began to pursue his own unique vision and journey to create external expressions of internal emotions.  The spontaneous interaction each day in the studio between John, his younger brother Danny and his mentor, Dan, is a natural alchemy for John’s non-objective exploration.

Biography from Museum of Art and History (MOAH):
Born in 1967, John McCaw is the eldest son of American expressionist Dan McCaw and brother to artist Danny McCaw. Working together as a family of artists, there seems to exist a natural alchemy. Although clearly influenced by each other, John articulates a unique vision and creativity. John has taken a path that is not limited by subject matter but is liberated by his focus on his emotional resources.

Spontaneity and instinct play a major role in the development and physicality of John's art. Absorbing the environment, painters of the past and present, and placing no limits on his imagination, John brings to his canvases not only his sensibilities but also the relationship between inner passion and the outer expression of site, mind and body. The emphasis on strong design, simple shapes, variety of surfaces and sensitive color has enabled John to create well-balanced visually stimulating art that encourages the viewer to look for answers within themselves.

Each work of art contains elements of life, bits and pieces that reveal the anatomy of our existence. Many of these pieces suggest universal themes, such as human relationships, religion, graphic symbols, modern culture and so on. These themes can be interpreted on many different levels. Whether it's an emotional connection or a visual attraction, John endeavors to create an art that most accurately represents the purity of a unique experience. 'Art is the external expression of an internal emotion.'

Biography from Wendt Gallery:
The oldest son of contemporary artist Dan McCaw, John McCaw has pursued his own passion for Art in a non-objective direction. His emphasis on strong design, simple shapes, variety of surfaces and sensitive color is the focus of his art work as well as instinct and emotion.
