| Born in Towle, CA on Sept. 12, 1903, the son of a gold miner. After graduating from the public schools of Sacramento, Mottram earned a B.A. degree from Sacramento Jr. College. He further studied at the CCAC and CSFA under Ralph Stackpole. He then worked for an Oakland firm as a tile designer, for a pottery works in Alameda, and as an apprentice to local sculptor Pio Tognelli and painter John Emmett Gerrity. In the early 1930s he moved down the peninsula to Palo Alto where he remained. He ha (showing 500 of 1523 characters). |
