| | Joseph Emil Manetta was born in Italy on Nov. 19, 1864. Manetta immigrated to the U.S. in 1893 and the next year settled in San Francisco. After the earthquake in 1906, he moved across the bay to Berkeley where he remained until his death of syphilis on Jan. 17, 1921. | Source:
