| Born in Minneapolis, MN on July 18, 1912. Murray moved to California with his family in 1928. After two years of high school in Alameda, he moved to Los Angeles where his first drawing in 1933 led to a scholarship at the Chouinard School of Art. While active with the Federal Art Project in the 1930s, he painted theatrical scenery and murals. He moved to San Francisco in 1938 and soon had his caricatures in Coast magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle. In 1940 he purchased an old etching p (showing 500 of 1086 characters). |
