This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following, submitted April 2005, is from the artist whose website is www.karenmangold.com.
Karen Mangold, who works in both oils and sculpture, is a native Texas who realized when very young that drawing came as natural as breathing. She is a native Texan who knew from the time she could hold a pencil that she was an artist. "I didn't choose art, it chose me!", she says. While growing up in the Texas Hill Country around Kerrville, Mangold's favorite subjects to sketch and paintwere horses and wildlife.
Mangold began her professional art career as a graphic artist, raised two sons and worked on her painting skills in her spare time.In her mid-20's, when attending a children's party, she picked up some Play-Doh to pass the time and 20 minutes later had created a very life-like mare. She knew then that she would also pursue the sculptural medium.Mangold enjoys exploring different subjects from western and equine art to wildlife art. She says, "When I choose a subject to paint or sculpt, there is some element that is exciting to me and I simply want to transfer feelings to he canvas or clay, that's what I want to share with the viewer." She strives for her creations to figuratively breathe from the moment of conception.Karen enjoys exploring different subjects: from western and equine art to wildlife art.
Her natural style is realism, but she uses vibrant color and impressionistic strokes to add excitement to her work. Her favorite subjects are animals and people interacting within their environment. She is self-taught, but benefited a great deal from studying briefly with artists such as Fritz White, Grant Speed, Jay Hester, and Charlotte Curry, among others.
