Biography from a third party submitted on 05/03/2007:
Katherine McNeill, an artist best known for oil landscape paintings with subjects including aspen trees, majestic mountains, and seascapes, as well as family homes and estates.  Also she paints floral still lifes and portraits and is a  member of the Society of Portrait Artists of America.

Born in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, McNeill moved to the United States in 1951. Her love for art started at a young age, and she began winning art competitions for her at age nine. She enjoys making everything she works on a masterpiece to
behold.

Moving from Santa Rosa, California in 1978, she and her family settled into the Pikes Peak region of Colorado, which inspired her aspen and mountain paintings.

Katherine McNeill has studied with Lloyd Thorsten and the late Mickey McGuire, and has studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and the Art's Student League of Denver.  Presently she is studying with Charles Cross. The 19th century landscape artists Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt have also been a major influence along with portrait artists Michaelangelo and John Singer Sargent.

She and her husband travel extensively throughout the mountain states and Europe,
backpacking and hiking the remote areas to obtain material for her landscapes.

Artist Statement:
"A dedicated artist I am known for my vibrant aspen and mountain oil paintings.  I try to make one feel and smell the mountain air as though they were walking through the forest and feel the crunch of the quaking aspens on the ground, as you lose yourself and feel you want to step in that place for the moment.  Using many colors to paint the aspens, I take all the surrounding reflective colors and make the trees realistic, each having there own personality.  Giving my paintings a mystical feeling to them, I hope that every once in awhile you will even discover an angel hidden ever so delicately into the trees, or maybe even discreetly in the clouds.

I draw much of my inspiration from repeated excursions into nature with my
husband, four-wheel driving into remote areas to capture the right time of morning or
early evening just to get the beautiful shadows.  To feel and smell the mountain air and to listen to the breeze filtering through the trees feeds my soul.

I sketch and photograph with a digital camera and with my own artistic sensibilities, I am anxious to sit down to perfect my oil-based perspective on life.  Years of painting aspen trees have in many ways been a spiritual journey.  With every stroke of my brush I try to carry my faith onto canvas to touch some ones' life and give them a sense of peace in their heart.
