Latvian painter Kunz Meyer-Waldeck was born in 1859 in Mittau (now Jelgava), Latvia and died in 1953 in Castle Neuburg an der Inn, South Germany. The artist spent his childhood in Russia, where his father worked as a Professor at the University of St. Petersburg and as a newspaper editor at that time. He attended high school in Gotha, Germany and in 1879 became a student of the Munich Academy, where he studied under W.v.Lindenschmidt until 1887.
