This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A European, he was trained at the Royal Academy of Budapest. He came to the United States following World War II and quickly established himself in New York City as a major portrait artist, with many of his subjects being celebrities such as John Wayne and Pablo Casals. In the 1960s, he moved to Houston, Texas, where he expanded his interest to western art. Examples of his work are in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He has also made a teaching video titled "Lajos Markos Classical Portrait Painting."

Biography from Zigler Museum:
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Markos earned a scholarship to the National Royal Academy of Budapest. Markos’ paintings hang in museums in the United States and Europe. He has international recognition for both his portraits and his western art. Markos also painted portraits of the founders of the Zigler Museum, Fred B. & Ruth B. Zigler.
