Biography from Jim's Of Lambertville:
| Miss Letitia Thompson Maxwell was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, in 1886. She received her artistic training at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women, under Elliot Daingerfield and Daniel Garber. After marrying, Mrs. Ely resided just north of New Hope and painted in both watercolor and oil.
Ely was a frequent exhibitor with the Phillips Mill Art Association and a member of the Washington Watercolor Club. She also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Society of Washington Artists.
Ely painted lovely impressionist landscapes and still lifes. Her body of work appears to be small but of consistently good quality showing her competency as an artist. She worked for local newspapers as an art critic.
Ely passed away in 1967. To date, there is little else known about the career of this artist.
