Louis Richard Max Meyer (1856-1912)
Born on May 28, 1856 in Berlin, Germany, Meyer was the son of Bernard and Ernestine d'Armand Meyer. His father was a noted orchestra leader, and his eight siblings all became musicians. Meyer took up the study of art as a young man, and spent eight years learning at the art academies of Berlin, Munich, and Dresden.
He came to America in 1892 and served as head of the art department of the University of Puget Sound for eight years.
Meyer died March 14, 1912 in Portland, Oregon. He was married and had five children.
