| Born in Cherokee, IA on Dec. 24, 1874. “Louie” Burr came to California with her family in 1882 and settled on a ranch in Lodi. After her education at Northwestern University, she studied art in St Louis and Omaha. In the 1890s she returned to San Francisco to pursue an art career. Her talent as a miniaturist and portraitist was soon recognized; she also painted still lifes and landscapes in oil, watercolor, and pastel.
