A sculptor, painter and muralist, Julian Muench spent most of his
career in Houston, Texas. He studied at Rice Institute and was a
student there from 1922 to 1924. His primary teacher was
John Clark Tidden, whose wife, Agnes, married Muench in 1927 after she
divorced Tidden.
Muench was especially noted for his oil and bronze portraits, some of
them life size, and for bas relief sculpture. Among his
portraiture was a likeness of General Sam Houston, (showing 500 of 1606 characters). |
