compared to the extensive information about American artists.|
The following information was submitted in July of 2006 by Herzbach & Wied:
Marie Henri Mackenzie (Rotterdam 1878-Hilversum, Netherlands 1961) trained at the Akademie of Rotterdam and after completion of his studies settled in Amsterdam, where he worked up until 1931. There he befriended George Hendrik Breitner (1857-1923) and is considered one of his proteges. In 1931, he left the impressionist society at Amsterdam, moved to Hilversum and devoted himself entirely to painting. He painted mainly landscapes, (from Amsterdam) ports, and portraits. Mackenzie was a member of the artist association of Saint Lucas and of the Hilversum Vereniging artist union.
