This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Portrait painter Mary Minifie started painting when she was eight years old.  She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in studio art and later attended the Boston University School of Fine Arts.  She continued to seek training while living overseas with her husband for nine years.  It was not until Minifie returned to Boston in 1985 that she found a painter and teacher who would inspire her, Paul Ingbretson.

Mary Minifie studied with Ingbretson for nine years following the rigorous methods of the French Academy.  She began with cast drawing then progressed from still life drawing to portraits and finally figure painting.  Along with drawing Ingbretson also trained Minifie in the importance of making color reflect the exact value, a tradition from the Boston School.

After her husband suddenly died  of a heart attack, Minifie began accepting more portrait commissions while she still enjoyed painting still life and figure works.  She maintains a studio in Manchester, New Hampshire in an old converted mill.

Mary Minifie is an artist member of the Copley Society*,The Guild of Boston Artists*, the American Society of Portrait Artists* and the Portrait Society of America.
