|  Born in India, Max Maynard lived in Canada and the United States from 1912. During the 1940s, he was briefly the interim director of the Vancouver Art Gallery. For many years he was a professor (later Professor Emeritus) of English Literature at the University of New Hampshire. Maynard lived in Victoria and Vancouver from 1912 to 1942.
