This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Galisteo, New Mexico landscape and portrait painter Patrick McFarlin uses a sweepingly brushy technique to suggest rather than define the scenes he paints, often buildings caught between swathes of earth and sky.

McFarlin, born in Arkansas, studied at the Memphis College of Art, University of Arkansas, Little Rock, and the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in the late 1960s. In 1990, he moved to Santa Fe, where he worked for four years on a SITE project painting over three-hundred portraits of people in the city that were exhibited at SITE in 1997.

He did it again in 1999 in California with "Napa Valley: Portrait of a Community," exhibited at the Napa Valley Museum. He has shown forty self-portraits in an exhibition at the Santa Fe Art Institute.

A trip through Holland in the late 1990s, led McFarlin to a series of landscapes expressing its flatness of terrain, as well as his memories of the Mississippi Delta and observations of the Central Valley of California.
