Biography from Roger King Fine Art, H - P:
Paul Moro was born in Bettola, Italy, and attended the Scuola delle Belle Arte in Rome. He emigrated to New York in 1909 and worked as a copyist of Barbizon paintings, which were in vogue with collectors at the time. He subsequently went to work for a painting restorer and eventually opened his own conservation studio.Moro moved to the Bronx in 1915 and frequently painted landscapes in the vicinity of the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens. In 1925 he and his family moved to Peekskill, New York, where much of the highly personal work featuring members of his family was produced. He painted exuberant scenes in thick impasto of his children at play, his wife sewing, and of family expeditions at the local swimming hole and at picnics.Moro exhibited at the New York Academy of Design for the last time in 1934, when his conservation business became increasingly demanding. In 1964 his work was exhibited at the Florence Lewsion Gallery. Several of his works were purchased by the Hirschhorn Museum. The Roger King Gallery of Fine Art was selected as the exclusive representative of the estate of Paul Moro in 1999.
