This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A painter, sculptor, writer and illustrator, Richard Maynard specialized in painting glamorous portraits of women and also of female figure swimming playfully together.  As a writer and illustrator, he had work published in Scribner's magazines and other national publications.  He lived much of his life in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.

Maynard was as student at Cornell University; Harvard University; Art Students League of New York and the New York School of Art. Among his teachers were William Merritt Chase; Irving Wiles; Joseph De Camp; and Robert Blum.

New York Society Painters; Art Society of Old Greenwich; American Authors League; American Watercolor Society; New York Watercolor Club; MacDowell Club; National Academy of Design; National Arts Club; Philadelphia Watercolor Club; Corcoran Gallery of Art; Art Institute of Chicago.

Exhibitions:
New York Watercolor Club; National Academy of Design; American Watercolor Society; National Arts Club; Philadelphia Watercolor Club; Corcoran Gallery annual, 1908; Art Institute of Chicago.

Born Chicago, 1875.  Pupil of Chase, Irving R. Wiles, and Blum in New York.  Member of the New York Water Color Club.
