Richard Munsell was born in New York in 1903. He was the nephew of artist Pruett Carter. By the 1930s he had settled in Los Angeles where he taught painting at the Chouinard Art School. Part of each year was spent with his mother in Woodstock, NY. He also painted under the pseudonym Richard M. Chambers. He died in 1963.
