| Robert Bledsoe Mayfield was born January 1, 1869 in Carlinville, Illinois. As a boy he lived in Europe attending school in Germany and Switzerland. He received his art training at the St. Louis Academy of Art, which later became part of Washington University. He also studied art at the Julien Academy in Paris. Among his teachers were Jules Lefebvre and Gabriel Ferrier. After serving a short apprenticeship as artist for the "St. Louis Dispatch", Mr. Mayfield came to New Orleans in 1891 to serve a (showing 500 of 1384 characters). |
