This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ruth Munson has a BFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and another from the University of Houston where she studied with local painter Robert Joy.  She studied three years at the Art Students' League in New York under  portrait painter Robert Brackman.  She also studied in London, Paris, and at the Artists' Workshop in Venice, Italy.

Two of her portraits, of Buckminster Fuller and Nolan Ryan, are hanging in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.  Another is in the National Gallery for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

She has had eight one-artist exhibitions including in Los Angeles, Carmel, La Jolla, and Houston.  Since moving back to Houston from Los Angeles, she has painted a number of prominent Texans.

Every spring she goes out into the fields and paints bluebonnets and other wild flowers. She illustrated Ghosts Along the Brazos, a book of venerable ghost stories which is published by the Brazoria County Museum.

She painted President Bush's 2004 White House Holiday Invitation Card and Texas Governor Rick Perry's Holiday Card for 2005.  One of her paintings was also featured on the August 1982 back cover of Reader's Digest.
