This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information was submitted December 2012 by the artist.

Sherrill Miller is a Marin-based landscape painter, art teacher through adult programs in Marin and co-founder of BayWood Artists. Born in Pasadena, raised in San Marino and spending summers in Laguna Beach, Miller grew up immersed in cities known for California Impressionism and with family-owned paintings by Edgar Payne, Mabel Alvarez and others.

After pursuing a career in psychotherapy and career counseling, Miller returned to painting landscapes as a way to connect with the environment through the tradition of plein-air painting. Her work often depicts the scenes she is most familiar with: the hills, oaks and eucalyptus of the North Bay and the beaches of Laguna where she still spends her summers. Aware of how population growth has devastated the countryside of Southern California, it is important to Miller to paint the scenes that matter to her before they disappear.

In 1997, Miller and a small group of fellow landscape painters formed BayWood Artists, a non-profit organization that contributes awareness and funds to preservation and conservation organizations. They have painted for Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin Open Space, Baylands Advocates, Fish Friendly Farming, Bay Area Ridge Trail, Russian River Keepers and other organizations.

Miller is a member of several art organizations including California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Association, American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America. Miller has been in shows at both the Haggin and Riverside Museums. Last  year the Annandale Country Club acquired one of her pieces. Miller has been a long time artist with MarinScapes and was their featured artist in 2010. She was also one of ten artists chosen for an oral history that focused on the healing aspects of painting in Marin for the Marin County Libraries.

Miller took art courses at UC Berkeley, Bennington College and Laguna Beach Center of Art and Design while pursuing degrees in counseling Miller took art courses at UC Berkeley, Bennington College and Laguna Beach Center of Art and Design while pursuing degrees in counseling.
