A Rhode Island portrait, landscape, and still-life painter and educator, Stephen Macomber was both a student and teacher at the Rhode Island School of Design*. In 1947, he was given the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the School. He also studied at the Hans Hoffman School of Art* in New York City.
In the 1950s, he served in the Rhode Island state senate. He lived in Providence and Westerley.
