| Born in Morong, Rigal, PI on Dec. 31, 1909. Mateo studied at the University of the Phillipines School of Fine Arts. Leaving there in 1928, he settled in San Francisco and continued his studies at the CCAC. During the 1930s he worked as a fruit picker and at other assorted jobs while painting in his leisure. He died in San Francisco on Aug. 5, 2001.
