This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Thomas Hill McKay was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 3, 1874.  McKay studied art in Glasgow.  He exhibited at the Glasgow Art Institute, the Scottish Academy, and the Royal Academy in London before immigrating to Los Angeles in 1923.  He was active in the local art scene until his death there on March 18, 1941.  His rare works include landscapes, marines, and scenes of Scotland.

Exh:  Barker Bros. (LA), 1924; Calif. Art Club, 1925-26; Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1926; Calif. WC Society, 1926-29; Santa Monica Public Library, 1933; Academy of Western Painters (LA), 1936; Associated Artists (LA), 1936; LA City Hall, 1941 (memorial).

Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940"
Note from Barbara Pederson, Manager, Employee Communications, Unocal (Union Oil Company of California)

This is not more than a footnote for his biography -- but I do know that T.H. McKay painted a series of covers for the Union Oil Company of California company magazine in the 1920s - and we do have copies of those editions. No original art survives. I doubt the company did more than copy it for the magazine.

LA Times, 2-17-1924 & 3-15-1925; Southern California Artists (Nancy Moure); Death Record.
