This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Thomas Malloy began his art career late in life.  At age 53, after his marriage to wife Dorothy in 1965  his "painting hobby" became his passion, even while holding down a factory job. Tom Malloy's first show was at the Trenton Public Library in 1967.  This led to exhibitions at the Camden County Library and the University of Pennsylvania Museum.  In 1968 Tom Malloy received a ribbon (Honorable Mention) at a "Senior Citizens Art Competition" in Mercer, County.  Sales were few though and Tom sold his work where he could, at venues like the Columbus Flea Market and on the boardwalk at Virginia Beach.  In the 1970's Tom began teaching art classes at local colleges and was featured in a group show called "5 Black Artists" at the Hermitage Collectors Gallery.  He also exhibited in group shows at the New Jersey State Museum.

Tom Malloy favored watercolor as his main means of expression as well as pencil studies.  His technique was fluid and his ability to render houses and buildings (his favorite subjects) with more than just architectual accuracy, but with the emotions of one who had lived in the city and surrounding neighborhoods all his life.  His images of houses and buildings reminds one of Edward Hopper and Hughie Lee-Smith.   Malloy received the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Garden State Watercolor Society on his 89th birthday.  He continued to paint until his death at age 95 on August 16, 2008.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Thomas Malloy (b. 1913-d. 2008) moved to Trenton, New Jersey from Dillon, South Carolina in 1923.  Though he always had an inclination toward drawing and other artistic skills, it was not until after his marriage to Dorothy Buck in 1967 that he began exhibiting his paintings.  His wife was an inspirational force, encouraging Thomas to associate with other artists and publicly show.

Mainly painting in watercolor, he was a member of the Trenton Artists Workshop Association, The Garden State Watercolor Society and the National League of Professional Artists.  In the mid-1950s he began painting scenes and sites of the city of Trenton, works he often sold for little money because he wanted everybody to be able to afford fine art.

Tom Malloy died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at age 95 in Trenton.
