Thomas J. McNamara was born in San Francisco, CA May 7, 1886.  Tom McNamara studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute and began his career as an illustrator for the Chronicle at the turn of the century.  He later gained fame in New York as the creator of "Us Boys" comic strip.  The years 1921-54 were spent in Hollywood as a writer and director for the "Our Gang" series and director of Mary Pickford in "Little Annie Rooney."   Nearly blind, McNamara spent his last ten years in San Francisco at the Laguna Honda Hospital.  He died there on May 19, 1964.
