Willard H. McCarty was born in California on Nov. 16, 1906. Willard was the brother of artist Lea McCarty. While in Los Angeles in the 1930s, he was on the Board of Trade when he began making figurines. The brothers soon had a successful business and produced thousands of figurines. He died in Sonoma, CA on June 5, 1971.
