This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Raised in Berkeley, California, Zenaida (Zee Zee) Mott earned a degree in history and French from the University of California. She spent a few years teaching at a girls college in Nigeria where Maria Sanchez, the wife of the Mexican consul, taught her to paint.  She also studied and attended workshops with Elizabeth Holland, John S. Lester, Ned Mueller, John Banovich, George Strickland, William Scott Jennings, T.M. Nicholas, Simon Combes, John Budicin and Scott Christensen.

After living for a while in Massachusetts and Japan, Mott returned to California where she is trying to preserve the natural landscape and wildlife on canvas before it is destroyed by developers.  She paints  mainly in oil, en plein air and at her studio.

Mott is a founding member of the BayWood Artists, a group of artists who are working together to preserve the open spaces of Marin County and the great Bay area of San Francisco.

She is also a member of the California Art Club, the Oil Painters of America, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Assocation, the American Academy of Women Artists, a signature member of the American Impressionist Society, and the National Academy of Plein Air Artists.
