A painter of landscape and coastal scenes especially of San Francisco Bay, Kate Newhall was born in Fall River, Massachusetts and spent her early years in Concord, New Hampshire. She studied at Cooper Union in New York from 1863 to 1864, taking a certificate for "Drawing and Painting from Still Life." She also took classes from Carleton Wiggins, Rufus Wright and Mauritz F.H. de Haas.
Around 1870, she became a resident of Brooklyn and there earned a reputation for landscape painting. From (showing 500 of 1729 characters). |
