| Painter. Born in Lincoln, IL on June 13, 1901. Nicholson studied at the AIC, with Wayman Adams and at the Grand Central School of Art in NYC. He appears to have divided his time between Peoria, IL and Santa Barbara, CA. He died in Spring Bay Village, IL on Aug. 17, 1966. Primarily a portraitist, Nicholson also painted landscapes of southern California and Illinois. His watercolors were all done in 1934 while in Morro Bay, CA. Member: Indianapolis AA; Laguna Beach AA; AAPL; Palette & Chisel Club (Chicago); Hoosier Salon; Santa Barbara AA (co-founder). Exh: Pasadena Art Inst., 1933; Peoria Art Inst., 1932 (1st prize); Oakland Art Gallery, 1936-45; Faulkner Museum (Santa Barbara), 1935, 1936, 1952, 1953; Illinois Society of FA, 1940 (gold medal); Hoosier Salon, 1941-54; Santa Barbara Museum, 1948; Smithsonian Inst., 1949; Laguna Beach AA, 1949-55 (1st & 2nd prizes); Herron Art Inst.
