| | Born in Yorkshire, England on Aug. 9, 1846. "Lizzie" married attorney Vincent Neale about 1873 and then set out for America. Making their way to California, the couple settled across the Golden Gate in San Rafael in 1882. Mrs. Neale was a society leader, founder of the San Rafael Improvement Club, head of the suffrage movement, and active in the local art scene. A self-taught painter, her forte was china decorating.
