| Born in Woodbridge, Connecticut on March 17, 1878, Newton was a pupil of Charles Hawthorne and Harry Leith-Ross. In California she taught at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Palo Alto in 1920-21 and studied at UC Santa Barbara in 1934-36. She never married and died in Woodbridge on July 15, 1970.
