Joseph Neary was born in New York and spent his early years sailing and fishing along the Eastern seacoast. While still a young man, he and his family moved to California's Monterey Peninsula. Life along the seacoast inspired Neary's first paintings. Joseph Neary's powerful paintings reflect his experience as a competitive sailor, and his keen eye for the windswept restlessness of the ocean and shore-lines of New England and Northern California.
