| Kenjilo Nanao was born in Aomori, Japan in 1929. Nanao arrived in San Francisco in 1960 to attend the Art Institute where he was greatly influenced by Nathan Oliveira. He further studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Returning to San Francisco in 1965, he obtained an M.F.A. from the Art Institute and in 1970 began twenty-one years of teaching at California State University. He currently lives in Berkeley, CA.
Exhibited: Brooklyn Museum, 1964; Santa Barbara Museum, 1972; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1998.
Works held: Brooklyn Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Oakland Museum; Museum of Modern Art (New York).
