Kinichi Nakanisi was born in Tokyo, Japan on March 2, 1892. After graduating from Horticultural College in Tokyo, Nakanishi arrived in Los Angeles in 1914. He soon was in the painting classes of Dana Bartlett, J. Francis Smith, and Henry W. Cannon. His painting style submitted to occidental influences and shows little trace of his oriental background. He died in Los Angeles on September 23, 1964.
