Maria Nazor was born in 1957 in Naples, Italy, where she also grew up. She studied Latin and Greek in high school and was influenced by her older brother, a professor of social psychology and her chemist father who taught her as a young girl the seemingly magical process by which pigments are made. She studied philosophy and literature extensively, but she is a self-taught artist.
