Marian Louise Boyd Nielsen was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, in 1921. She studied music at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and with private teachers in New York. She is a self-taught painter who became interested in arts and painting when she moved to Mexico City in 1960. She first became involved in painting on wood and papier mache surfaces. In 1964, she commenced to easel painting and had her first one-woman show at the Antonio Suza Gallery in Mexico City in 1966.
