This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Lithuania, Maurice Newman settled in Rockport, Massachusetts. His specialty was dioramas and miniature models, and he exhibited at the Children's Museum in Boston, the 1939 World's Fair in New York, and the Essex Institute in Salem.

He studied at the Johannesburg School of Art in South Africa.

He also painted impressionist landscapes and portraits.  His public work includes a memorial sculpture in aluminum to the Jewish marters in Warsaw, Poland, which was installed in front of the Jewish Community Center in  Kansas City, Missouri.

Additional information was provided in March of 2006 by his daughter Rachel.
