This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Houston, Texas, May Noble became an established artist in Phoenix, Arizona where in 1914, she served as chair of the Jury Selection of the Art Exhibition Committee of the Women's Club of Phoenix.  These Club sponsored exhibitions became annual parts of the State Fair and were intended to "bring to the front Arizona artists of various accomplishments of brush, pencil, charcoal, camera and decorative work." (Trenton 144).  One picture each year, usually the first prize winner, was donated to the Municipal Art Collection.

May Noble also chaired the Arizona Committee for the Public Works Project during the 1930s. She had studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Boston Museum School and the California College of Arts and Crafts. She also studied in Paris, France with Lawton Parker, and in New York City with John Johansen.
