This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted January 2005, is from the artist.

Nail Nagy has been an artist his entire life. As a child he sat on the floor and drew on paper grocery bags and paper scraps his mother saved for him. He frequently chosen to illustrate a school book or paint a club symbol on the back of a jacket.

Born in 1941 in the East Los Angeles Latino community of El Sereno, Neil came to appreciate the culture and art of Mexico. In later years he traveled extensively in Mexico, absorbing the colorful life of the people and the country and to study the ancient Mayan civilizations. Several residencies in the plains of the Bahio and the central-western coast added to this influence on his life and art.

As an art and design student at San Jose State in the San Francisco bay area in the early 1960s, he was exposed to the art of the Bay Area Figurative painters Manual Neri and Nathan Oliveira. This art resounded with his background and interest and he knew that he would make painting his life.

Married shortly out of college, he took a job as an industrial designer and eventually started his own consulting firm, Nagy Design, which grew into an internationally recognized entity in the design community. His art continued uninterrupted and eventually he sold his business in order to devote his full attention to his art.

Neil Nagy has exhibited internationally and is included in a number of corporate and private collections. Galleries in Palm Desert, Chicago, Orange County, San Diego and Vermont represent his work. He keeps a studio in San Pedro, California
