This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Paul Nocquet was born in Belgium 1877, immigrated to the United States August 1903. He died April 5, 1906 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt Kasco New York. His death occurred when he ascended from the Bronx, New York bound for Philadelphia in a hot air balloon, landed at Jones Beach, Amityville, and died trying to find help.

He had achieved distinction as an artist, sculptor, writer and aeronaut in Belgium, France and America. He also was a member of the Aero Club of New York.

He had an exhibit of 60 pieces at Gutzon Borglum's studio in March of either 1905 or 1906. It appears from the List of Exhibits that I.N. Seligman presented a bronze entitled American Football to Columbia University Club. The list included portraits, bronzes, patinaed plasters, wax models and drawings.

A Memorial Exhibit at the American Art Galleries, Madison Square South on April 28, 1906 was organized after his death to settle his estate. Honorary members of the committee included President Roosevelt, the French ambassador, Belgium minister and Belgium consul, Sarah Bernhardt, Augustus St Gardens, Auguste Rodin, Gutzon Borglum and Daniel French. Afterwards his bronzes and plasters were moved to a special exhibit at Gorham Company and apparently sold through that company.

Submitted February 2004 by Robin Borglum Carter who wrote:
"My grandfather Gutzon Borglum was the Executor of the Estate of Paul Nocquet and many papers and photos of Nocquet's are in the Borglum family archives. From the information I found, I have written a small biography. Perhaps others will have more to add."
