| Born in Piedmont, CA on Dec. 4, 1898. After serving in the Navy during WWI, Newsom went into business in Napa growing dahlias. His interest in Japanese gardens led him to Japan in 1934 for four years of study. While there he made hundreds of pen-&-ink sketches. He later designed the waterfall in Golden Gate Park’s Japanese Tea Gardens. After WWII he made his home and studio in a barn in Mill Valley which was a Friday night gathering place for artists for many years. In 1975 Newsom retired (showing 500 of 751 characters). |
