This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Egbert Oudendag (1914 - 1998)
Egbert Oudendag was a painter who was born in Raalte, The Netherlands.  He emigrated to Dundas, Ontario, Canada in 1949 and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1963. He died in White Rock, B.C., a community about 25 miles from Vancouver.
His medium was primarily oil.  His subjects are landscapes, shorelines, beaches, boats, figures, still life, nudes and portraits.  His mature style is representational ; easily recognized by its loose economical use of sketchy brush strokes and a minimum of detail.
He was largely self-taught; however, in his early 30's he studied for several years in Amsterdam with the portraitist and famous art forger Hans Van Meegeren (see AskART).
His paintings are primarily exhibited in commercial galleries in Canada and the United States, and they are in many private collections.
There are numerous newspaper articles about him dating from his first entry into Canada (eg. Globe and Mail, Toronto, Sept 7,1949) up to his death.  He is listed in A Dictionary of Canadian Artists (1974), by Colin S. MacDonald, published by Canadian Paperbacks Ltd. (8 volumes); and in The Collector's Dictionary of Canadian Artists at Auction (2001), by Anthony R. Westbridge and Diana L. Bodnar, published by Westbridge Publications Ltd. (4 volumes).
