This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted February 2005, is from the artist.

Born in Nome, Alaska in 1970 to a family rich in arctic culture and history, Elizabeth Osborne was inspired to tell stories through her large portrait paintings. "My Grandmother was the authority on Eskimo legends as well as the symbolic representations seen in the ceremonial costumes worn during storytelling events. I was surrounded by cultural expression and creativity from a very young age which gave me the love and appreciation for visually telling stories through symbolism."

As a young adult, Elizabeth Osborne was drawn to the iconographic stylings of the fashion design industry. After a season in the city she soon felt the desire to be back in an environment closely connected to nature." In the 90's her studies continued in the fields of Architecture and Black & White Photography while residing in Northern California's High Sierra mountains.

The inspiration for her modern portraits come from Biblical scriptures and the human experiences that we all have in common. "There is a beauty to discovery. When a thought or idea has the ability to change the way one thinks and acts it is a profound moment. I am interested in conveying to the viewer this transitional point that affects the perception and the emotional well-being of a person's life."

Osborne looks at the face and crops in close to magnify and capture the expressions of anguish, hope, strength, peace, long-suffering, and vulnerability. Her large-scale portraits are intense in color and composition using a new technique she coins as Sculp'Tar.

Today, she has settled in the small historic community of Placerville, CA inbetween Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. She finds beauty and inspiration for her deeply emotional paintings by being surrounded by deep river canyons, vineyard clad hills, and snow topped mountains.
