Gertrude Cederstrom Orde was born in St Louis, MO on July 6, 1901. Orde studied at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, and Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. By the 1930s she had moved to Los Angeles and established a studio-home where she specialized in children's portraits. She was the wife of Marcus Randolph Nelson when cancer took her life there on October 6, 1959.
