| A resident of Omaha, Nebraska for forty-two years, James Knox O'Neil was a well-known portrait, genre, and marine painter in Omaha whose portrait subjects included many prominent persons. At the time of his death, an unfinished life-size portrait, dated 1905, of John A. Creighton, founder of Creighton University, was in his studio at Carter Lake. One of his best-known works was "The Battle of Wounded Knee," an historical genre work of the famous Custer battle in South Dakota. Skillfully executed (showing 500 of 3487 characters). |
