| | Born in East Solen, PA on April 26, 1863. Oliver lived in Kansas before moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 1893 to teach art at the University of Pacific. He settled in Pacific Grove where he exhibited and was active in the art scene until his death in nearby Salinas on Feb. 28, 1943. He was the father of artist Myron Oliver.
